The first and last name to come to mind when discussing the most decorated Marine in Vietnam is Gunnery Sergeant John Basilone. A true American hero, Basilone served valiantly in the Pacific Theater during World War II and was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for his heroism. During Vietnam, he was credited with saving the lives of countless Marines and earned numerous medals, including two Purple Hearts, the Presidential Unit Citation, the Navy Cross, and the Navy and Marine Corps Medal.
